Hello, everybody! My name is Billy Shaw, and I have the privilege of pastoring the First Baptist Church of Stanley, NC. I have decided to blog devotionals, theological tidbits, cultural commentary, humor, and church news through this site, so that our people, prospects, and community can see what's going on at Stanley's FBC, and come check us out. I've got some things planned to upload here already, and am looking forward to this becoming a sounding board for ideas for our church. At FBC Stanley, we love everybody, and want to become the community church. That's why the blog will be called "The Stanley Stylus." I hope you enjoy!

Awesome! What more can I say. The only thing I think the church needs now, is a little more RUST.

Debbie Ross
I am so glad that God's will brought you to our church.
ReplyDeleteBoy do we need more RUST!!! We also need to get tuned in to the folks that are visiting our church. I see every Sunday people coming in to worship and the ushers are standing around talking and not even welcoming the people. If I visited anywhere and no one made me feel welcome, I wouldn't go back. We also need folks out in the parking lot, on the front steps making certain that anybody who comes in is welcomed. We also need more visibility of our youth and our younger couples. Get them out to greet and meet!!! Warmth and welcome will help to grow a church as quickly as anything will.
ReplyDeleteI'd also like to see us do some canvassing and visiting in neighborhoods around the church. I think that it is very sad that more people aren't having the opportunity to hear the music and the biblical preaching and teaching we are. Are we really thrilled and excited about growing FBC Stanley? I'm am so thankful that Billy Shaw is our Pastor! Let's get out and support him!!!
I think it would encourage the members of RUST to hear you say these things, Debbie. RUST has a lot of contageous enthusiasm! I'm glad RUST is a part of our overall church ministry. Jane and I are working together to think creatively about how to incorporate more variety into our church worship as a whole.
ReplyDeleteAs the atmosphere in our church has changed so significantly over the last year, so has people's warmth toward newcomers. There are a lot of things that we can do even more, and you can expect to see some greeter training very soon. As one gentleman shared with me recently, you can't retool everything at once. I think even as early as September (new church year) you will see so many things in place that are geared toward helping us grow.
I appreciate all of your support, and look forward to the brightest days yet ahead.
Pastor
You are so right, the atmosphere has changed dramatically. Having two younger people in leadership roles has given us a breath of fresh air. Our church is just bursting with opportunities. Having Trey & Sarah working with the youth is a real positive!
ReplyDeleteWe can't retool everything right away. We didn't get where we are in a day and we can't change in a day, but I see so many folks hungry for growth and seeing what we saw on Sunday...folks coming to know the Lord! How beautiful and awesome was that!!!!!!
I have enjoyed the stanley stylus blog. My sister
